Xanax XR and Sex Drive

Xanax XR can cause changes in a person's sex drive (also known as libido). In studies where the medication was used to treat panic disorder, up to 6 percent of people reported a decreased sex drive, compared to just 2.3 percent of those not taking Xanax XR.

Xanax XR and Sexual Dysfunction

Up 2.4 percent of people taking Xanax XR for panic disorder reported problems with sexual function, compared to 1.1 percent of people not taking it. Sexual dysfunction can include impotence (also known as erectile dysfunction or ED), problems ejaculating, or difficulty achieving an orgasm.

Will I Experience Xanax XR Sexual Side Effects?

It is impossible for your healthcare provider to know whether you will develop any of these Xanax XR sexual side effects.

Also, if a person does develop sexual side effects, it is difficult to know whether these problems are caused by other factors or by Xanax XR itself.

If you develop sexual side effects while taking Xanax XR, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider. He or she may be able to recommend treatment options. Depending on the severity of your sexual side effects, he or she may also recommend that you adjust your Xanax XR dosage or try another panic disorder treatment.
