Vivitrol

Dosing Information

There is only one standard dose of Vivitrol, regardless of your age, weight, or the reason you are receiving it. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Side Effects of Vivitrol

Just like any medicine, Vivitrol can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
 
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
 
Common Vivitrol side effects include but are not limited to:
 
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Injection-site reactions
  • Symptoms of the common cold.

Drug Interactions

Vivitrol may react with a few other medicines (see Vivitrol Drug Interactions).
 

Important Information for Your Healthcare Provider

Talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Vivitrol if you have:
 
  • Used a narcotic (opioid), alcohol, or an illegal drug in the last 7 to 10 days
  • Liver disease, such as cirrhosis, liver failure, or hepatitis
  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Hemophilia, a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), or other bleeding problems
  • Depression or have had depression in the past
  • Had thoughts of suicide or harming yourself
  • Symptoms of drug or alcohol withdrawal
  • Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
 
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
   
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
