Vivactil Withdrawal

Vivactil® (protriptyline hydrochloride) and other antidepressants are known to cause withdrawal symptoms in those who quickly stop taking the medicine.
 

Symptoms of Vivactil Withdrawal

Symptoms of Vivactil withdrawal can include but are not limited to:
 
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Malaise (a general ill feeling).
     
In most people, these symptoms improve with time, without the need for any treatment.
 

Limiting Symptoms of Vivactil Withdrawal

If you are going to be taken off of Vivactil, your healthcare provider may decide to wean you off the drug slowly to minimize the chances of developing withdrawal symptoms.
 If symptoms do occur, your healthcare provider may return you to your previous Vivactil dosage and then wean you off even more gradually.
