Trazodone ER

Trazodone ER Effects

Studies have shown that trazodone ER can significantly improve depression symptoms, compared to a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). Additionally, the antidepressant activity of trazodone has been well demonstrated in many clinical studies of the short-acting version of this medication.

When and How to Take It

Some general considerations include the following:
  • This medication comes in tablet form. It is taken by mouth, usually at bedtime.
  • You should take trazodone ER on an empty stomach.
  • Do not crush, chew, or dissolve the extended-release tablets, as this will cause the medication to be released too quickly. You must swallow them whole. You may cut or break the tablets in half along the score line, if necessary, to achieve the proper dose (this will not interfere with the extended-release properties of the tablets).
  • Make sure to take this drug at the same time each day, to keep an even level of the medication in your blood.
  • For the medicine to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not suddenly stop taking it, as withdrawal symptoms could occur.

How Should the Medication Be Stored?

Trazodone ER should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep this and all other medications out of the reach of children.

Is There a Generic Version?

This medication is not available in generic form (see Generic Oleptro).

Who Makes This Medication?

Trazodone ER is made by Labopharm Europe Limited.
