Side Effects of Trazodone ER

Common Side Effects

Trazodone ER has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking trazodone ER were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients).

These studies showed that the most common bothersome (but not usually dangerous) trazodone ER side effects included:

  • Drowsiness -- in up to 46 percent of people
  • Headaches -- up to 33 percent
  • Dry mouth -- up to 25 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 25 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 21 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 15 percent
  • Constipation -- up to 8 percent
  • Back pain -- up to 5 percent
  • Blurred vision -- up to 5 percent
  • Sexual problems -- up to 4.9 percent (see Oleptro and Sexual Problems).

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the trazodone ER side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While the issue may not be related to a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
