Surmontil Warnings and Precautions

Who Should Not Take Surmontil?

You should not take Surmontil if you:
 
  • Are allergic to Surmontil, trimipramine maleate, or any inactive component used to make Surmontil. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Have recently had a heart attack (known medically as a myocardial infarction).
  • Are taking linezolid (Zyvox®) or intravenous methylene blue. Surmontil should not be started in people taking linezolid or IV methylene blue, but a person already taking Surmontil may be given linezolid or methylene blue, if absolutely necessary, and only with very careful monitoring and only if Surmontil is stopped during treatment. 
  • Have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the last 14 days. Some examples of MAOIs include:
