Surmontil Drug Interactions

When certain medicines, such as pressors or thyroid medications, are taken together with Surmontil, drug interactions can potentially occur. These interactions can increase the risk of side effects, such as suicidal thoughts or a dangerous arrhythmia called QT prolongation. Some other drugs that may potentially lead to Surmontil interactions include phenothiazine medications, cimetidine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), and other tricyclic antidepressants.

 

An Introduction to Surmontil Drug Interactions

Surmontil® (trimipramine maleate) can potentially interact with many other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Surmontil interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
     
  • Anticholinergic medications, including:

 

 

  • Arrhythmia medications, including:

 

    • Amiodarone (Cordarone®)
    • Disopyramide (Norpace®)
    • Dofetilide (Tikosyn®)
    • Flecainide (Tambocor®)
    • Ibutilide (Corvert®)
    • Propafenone (Rythmol®)
    • Quinidine
    • Sotalol (Betapace®)

 

 

 

  • Phenothiazine medications, including:

 

 

  • Pressors, including:

 

    • Dopamine (Intropin®)
    • Dobutamine (Dobutrex®)
    • Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®)
    • Norepinephrine (Levophed®)

 

 

 

  • Thyroid medications, including:
