Surmontil Drug Interactions

Buspirone (BuSpar)
Because combining Surmontil with buspirone may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Taking Surmontil with cimetidine can raise the level of Surmontil in your blood, increasing your chances of side effects. If you are taking Surmontil with cimetidine, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these medications.
 
Fentanyl
Combining Surmontil with fentanyl may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Intravenous Methylene Blue
Taking Surmontil with intravenous methylene blue can increase your chance of developing dangerous side effects, including serotonin syndrome. Do not take these medications together.
 
Linezolid (Zyvox)
Taking Surmontil with linezolid can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. These symptoms can include confusion, hallucinations, a fast heartbeat, feeling faint, a fever, sweating, muscle spasms, difficulty walking, and diarrhea. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these symptoms, as serotonin syndrome can be very dangerous.
 
Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
Taking Surmontil with lithium can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome (see above), as it can be very dangerous.
 
Miscellaneous Antidepressants
Combining Surmontil with other antidepressants may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome, as it can be very dangerous.
 
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Taking Surmontil with MAOIs can increase your chances of developing dangerous side effects. Do not take Surmontil if you have taken an MAOI within the past two weeks.
