Serzone Interactions Explained
Alcohol
It is not recommended to drink alcohol while taking
Serzone. Combining alcohol and Serzone together may cause unwanted side effects
(see Alcohol and Serzone).
Alprazolam (Xanax)
Serzone can double the level of
alprazolam in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider should reduce your alprazolam dose by half if you are taking Serzone.
Buspirone (Buspar)
Taking
buspirone and Serzone together can increase the level of buspirone in your blood and put you at higher risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your buspirone dose.
Carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR)
Carbamazepine can greatly decrease the level of Serzone in your blood, perhaps making Serzone less effective. It is generally not recommended to take these medications together.
Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Serzone can increase the level of cyclosporine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of cyclosporine in your blood.
Digoxin (Lanoxin, Digitek)
Taking digoxin with Serzone may increase the level of digoxin in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of digoxin in your blood, especially when starting or stopping Serzone.
Fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem)
Taking Serzone and
fluoxetine together can change the way your body metabolizes Serzone, increasing your chance of side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together (or even within several weeks of each other).
