Orally Disintegrating Alprazolam Dosage

Orally Disintegrating Alprazolam Dosing for Panic Disorder

The initial orally disintegrating alprazolam dosage for treating panic disorder is normally 0.5 mg three times a day. If this amount does not control your symptoms, your healthcare provider may slowly increase it by 1 mg (or less) every three to four days until your symptoms are adequately controlled or you experience intolerable side effects.
Higher doses of orally disintegrating alprazolam may be needed for treating panic disorder. Some people may need as much as 10 mg a day. If you experience symptoms in between your doses, your healthcare provider may recommend that you take the medication four times a day.
If you are taking more than 4 mg of orally disintegrating alprazolam a day, your healthcare provider may periodically reduce your dosage to see if a lower amount will control your symptoms. In general, it is recommended that the medication be reduced by no more than 0.5 mg every three days.
Older adults or people with certain health problems, such as advanced liver disease, may be more sensitive to the effects of orally disintegrating alprazolam. In these cases, the recommended starting dose for treating anxiety and panic disorder is 0.25 mg two or three times daily.
