Drug Interactions With Orally Disintegrating Alprazolam
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)
Proton pump inhibitors can have variable effects on orally disintegrating alprazolam. Certain PPIs (such as dexlansoprazole, esomeprazole, and omeprazole) may increase the levels of alprazolam in your body, increasing your risk for side effects.
In addition, the manufacturer of orally disintegrating alprazolam cautions that medications that alter stomach acid (such as PPIs) may decrease the amount of alprazolam absorbed into the body. This would decrease alprazolam blood levels. Because of these possible interactions, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely if you take this drug with a PPI.
Theophylline may decrease the level of alprazolam in your body, potentially decreasing its intended anti-anxiety effects. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before taking these medications together.
