Nicotine Patch Application Information

If you are considering using the nicotine patch (Nicoderm® CQ®), you may be looking for information on how this medicine is applied. Proper application of this patch is important to avoid overdose symptoms or skin irritation.
Apply one new patch directly to the skin every 24 hours. Place it on any clean, dry, hairless area of your skin. Do not use soaps, lotions, oils, or creams on the area before applying the patch. Choose a new skin area for your next patch; avoid the same area for at least one week.
To apply the patch, remove it from its pouch, remove the patch backing, and immediately press the patch onto your skin. Hold it in place for 10 seconds. Wash your hands immediately after applying and removing the patch. Do not use a patch that is cut, as it may cause overdose symptoms.
