Nicotine Patch Allergic Reaction

Although most people do not experience any problems with the nicotine patch (Nicoderm® CQ®), certain risks are associated with the use of this drug. For example, side effects are possible, such as skin irritation, sleep problems, and headaches.
 
Some side effects of the nicotine patch are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include chest pain, depression, and a rapid heartbeat. Allergic reactions are also possible with the nicotine patch. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
  • An unexplained rash
  • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
