Nicotine Inhaler

Dosing Information

The dosage your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on:

  • Your level of nicotine dependence
  • How well you tolerate the medication.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

(Click Nicotine Inhaler Dosage for more information.)

Drug Interactions

The nicotine inhaler is unlikely to interact with most medications. However, a number of other medicines may be affected by you quitting smoking (see Drug Interactions With the Nicotine Inhaler).

What If I Take an Overdose?

People who overdose on this medication may develop symptoms of nicotine toxicity, such as nausea, vomiting, confusion, and potentially dangerous breathing problems. Seek immediate medical attention if you may have used too much of this medication or swallowed the nicotine cartridges.

(Click Nicotrol Inhaler Overdose for more information.)

How Should the Nicotine Inhaler Be Stored?

The nicotine inhaler should be stored at room temperature, away from light and heat. Keep this and all other medications out of the reach of children and pets. The inhaler contains enough nicotine to harm a child or animal.

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?

If you forget to use your nicotine inhaler, just use it as soon as you remember and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and continue with your regular schedule. Do not use two doses at once, or use more than 16 cartridges in a day.
