How Molindone Works

Molindone belongs to a group of medications called typical (or first-generation) antipsychotic medications. It is not entirely known precisely how molindone works. However, it is known that the drug blocks or lessens the effects of dopamine, a chemical in the brain. Dopamine may be elevated in people with schizophrenia.
 

Is Molindone Used in Children?

Molindone is not recommended for children under 12 years old, as it has not been adequately studied in young children. Be sure to discuss the benefits and risks of using the drug in children.
 

Is Molindone Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend molindone for treating something other than schizophrenia. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label molindone uses.
