Methylphenidate Suspension

If you have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), your healthcare provider may recommend treatment with a medication called methylphenidate ER oral suspension (Quillivant XR™). This prescription drug comes as a powder that your pharmacist will mix with water before you receive it. The liquid suspension is taken once daily in the morning.

Methylphenidate ER oral suspension is approved for use in children as young as six years old, and also in adults. Although it is a stimulant, this medication causes a calming effect when used in the doses prescribed to treat ADHD. Possible side effects include mood swings, insomnia, and decreased appetite.
