Sublingual Buprenorphine Information

Available by prescription only, sublingual buprenorphine (Subutex®) is approved for the treatment of opioid dependence in adults. This can include a dependence on legal or illegal opioid narcotics, including morphine or heroine.
 
Before using sublingual buprenorphine, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking and any other medical problems you may have. For instance, this medicine may not be the best choice for people with breathing problems, a seizure disorder, or heart disease.
 
Sublingual buprenorphine tablets are placed in the mouth under the tongue until they dissolve. This medication is normally used once a day. Although most people tolerate the drug well, side effects can occur and may include nausea, insomnia, and headaches.
