Paliperidone Palmitate Drug Information

Adults who have schizophrenia may receive paliperidone palmitate (Invega® Sustenna®). This medication can be used to:
 
  • Control an episode of increased symptoms (acute treatment)
  • Prevent a relapse of symptoms (maintenance treatment).

Paliperidone palmitate is a type of atypical antipsychotic medicine and works by blocking the action of certain chemicals in the brain. It comes as a liquid that is injected into a muscle (intramuscular, or IM, injection). The injection is administered by a healthcare provider once a month.
 
Before receiving paliperidone palmitate, update your healthcare provider on any information regarding other drugs you are taking (including vitamins and supplements), as well as any allergies you may have. It is also important to let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
