Levomilnacipran Drug Information
If you have major depressive disorder, also known as major depression or clinical depression, your healthcare provider may prescribe a drug called levomilnacipran (FetzimaTM).
When the levels of certain brain chemicals (serotonin and norepinephrine) become imbalanced, it can cause various problems, including depression. As a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), levomilnacipran works by blocking the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine so that more remains in the space between the brain's nerve cells. Clinical studies have shown this drug to be effective for depression treatment in adults.
It comes in capsule form and is typically taken once daily. Although most people tolerate levomilnacipran well, side effects are possible and include an increased heart rate, excessive sweating, and nausea.
