Glutamine, also known as
L-glutamine, is a type of amino acid. Although it is found in many foods, glutamine is produced naturally by the human body and is also available in
dietary supplements. It is claimed to be useful for a number of conditions, such as
insomnia, various nutritional disorders,
depression, and
anxiety. At this time, however, not enough information is available to confirm the effectiveness of these uses.
Information about glutamine should be carefully reviewed before you begin treatment to help ensure your safety. This supplement is not suitable for every situation, so let your healthcare provider know if you have
bipolar disorder, severe liver disease, or
epilepsy. Also, tell your healthcare provider if you have any
allergies, especially to monosodium glutamate (MSG) or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
