Citalopram Hydrobromide
Citalopram hydrobromide (Celexa®) is a drug that is often used to treat depression. It is a type of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by balancing the levels of serotonin, a chemical in the brain that becomes unbalanced in people with depression. This action helps to reduce depression symptoms and minimize the risk of a relapse. The medication is available by prescription only and comes in both tablet and liquid form.
Although it is generally well tolerated, side effects are possible. In clinical studies, commonly reported side effects of citalopram hydrobromide included nausea, shakiness, and dry mouth.
