Mellaril Side Effects

Hyperactivity, weight gain, and a dry mouth are some of the most common side effects reported with Mellaril. Side effects of this medicine are mostly minor, requiring little or no treatment. However, certain side effects are more serious and should be reported to a healthcare provider. Among these more serious side effects are irregular heart rhythms, worsening of psychotic symptoms, and unusual body movements.

An Introduction to Mellaril Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Mellaril^® (thioridazine). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate Mellaril well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Mellaril has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials.

In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and are then compared to side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

Confusion
Hyperactivity
Lethargy
Restlessness
Headaches

Constipation
Blurred vision
Difficulty passing urine
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

A loss of appetite

Asthma
Weight gain
Bizarre dreams.

There have been reports that Mellaril may cause false positive pregnancy tests (a positive pregnancy test in an individual who is not pregnant).
