Mellaril and Pregnancy

While it isn't known whether Mellaril is passed through breast milk, other similar medications are known to pass through breast milk. If you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding and have been prescribed Mellaril, it is important that you let your healthcare provider know. Together you and your healthcare provider can make a shared decision about Mellaril and breastfeeding for your particular situation.

 

An Overview of Mellaril and Breastfeeding

It is not known if Mellaril® (thioridazine), an antipsychotic medication that can cause serious side effects, is passed through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding and have been prescribed Mellaril, make sure to let your healthcare provider know.
 

What Does the Research Say About Mellaril and Breastfeeding?

No studies have been done to see if Mellaril passes through breast milk in humans. However, other similar medications are known to pass through breast milk. If your healthcare provider recommends taking Mellaril while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your child.
