Maprotiline and Breastfeeding

Maprotiline (Ludiomil®) passes through breast milk. Due to the possible harmful effects maprotiline might have on the breastfeeding infant, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking maprotiline while breastfeeding. While levels of maprotiline passed through breast milk appear to be low, it is not known if exposure to maprotiline through breast milk has any negative effects on a child.

You should talk with your healthcare provider about maprotiline and breastfeeding. This is because everyone's situation is different, and your healthcare provider understands your situation best. Based on what you want and expect (and your current health situation), you and your healthcare provider can make a shared decision about maprotiline and breastfeeding in your particular situation.
