Maprotiline is a prescription medication licensed for the treatment of depression and anxiety associated with depression. By allowing certain chemicals (serotonin and norepinephrine) to stay in the brain longer, the drug can help improve symptoms of depression. Potential side effects of maprotiline include dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, and nervousness. The antidepressant comes in tablet form and is usually taken by mouth one to four times a day.
