How Should Prolixin be Stored?Prolixin should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. The tablets and elixir should be stored in an airtight container.
What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?If you do not take your Prolixin as scheduled, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Available StrengthsGeneric Prolixin tablets are available in the following strengths:
- Fluphenazine 1 mg
- Fluphenazine 2.5 mg
- Fluphenazine 5 mg
- Fluphenazine 10 mg.
- Fluphenazine elixir -- 2.5 mg per 5 mL (2.5 mg per teaspoonful)
- Fluphenazine oral solution concentrate -- 5 mg per mL (25 mg per teaspoonful).
Alternatives to ProlixinSeveral alternatives to Prolixin are available for the treatment of psychotic disorders. In addition to other "typical" antipsychotics, there are newer, "atypical" antipsychotics. Atypical antipsychotic medications for psychotic disorders include:
- Aripiprazole (Abilify®)
- Clozapine (Clozaril®, FazaClo®)
- Olanzapine (Zyprexa®)
- Paliperidone (Invega®)
- Quetiapine (Seroquel®)
- Risperidone (Risperdal®)
- Ziprasidone (Geodon®).
