As an "atypical antipsychotic" medication, paliperidone (Invega®) is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia. This prescription drug has been studied in a number of clinical studies. In these studies, people taking it for schizophrenia showed improvement in their schizophrenia symptoms, including hallucinations and suspiciousness. Longer studies also showed that paliperidone can help prevent hospitalization due to schizophrenia and can help prevent symptoms from returning.
Common side effects of this drug include drowsiness, headaches, and weight gain. However, most people are able to use it without any problems. Paliperidone comes in the form of a tablet and is generally taken once a day in the morning.
