Some common side effects of dexmethylphenidate extended-release include throat pain, a loss of appetite, and a dry mouth. In many cases, side effects of this medicine are minor and can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. If you experience serious side effects -- such as chest pain, thoughts of suicide, or signs of an allergic reaction -- report them to your healthcare provider. A few rare dexmethylphenidate extended-release side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, hair loss, and feeling jittery.

However, not everyone who takes dexmethylphenidate extended-release will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate dexmethylphenidate extended-release well. When people do develop side effects with this medicine, in most cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
Common Dexmethylphenidate Extended-Release Side EffectsDexmethylphenidate extended-release has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials, with many people having been evaluated. In these studies, the side effects occurring in a group of people taking the drug are always documented and compared to the side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common dexmethylphenidate extended-release side effects include:
- Headaches -- up to 39 percent of people

- Dry mouth -- up to 20 percent of people
- Anxiety -- up to 11 percent of people
- Upset stomach or heartburn -- up to 9 percent of people
- Throat pain -- up to 7 percent of people.
