Mental Health Home > Citalopram Side Effects
Rare side effects occur in less than 1 percent of people taking citalopram. Because these reactions are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they are actually caused by the medication or something else.
Some of these problems include but are not limited to:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Leg cramps
- Weight gain (see Celexa and Weight Gain)
- Hair loss (see Hair Loss From Celexa)
- Atrial fibrillation
- Congestive heart failure
- Kidney stones
- Dry eyes
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any problems or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of citalopram, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
