Mental Health Home > Bergamot Oil Dosage

It is important to note that unlike medications (for which the standard doses have been well established), there is less information available for determining the best dose for products like bergamot oil. In fact, it is a little strange to discuss a bergamot oil "dosage," as most people use it as an aromatherapy oil. However, because bergamot oil is sometimes used medicinally, a brief discussion of bergamot oil dosing may be useful.

Medicinally, bergamot oil is claimed to be useful for treating various skin conditions, such as psoriasis or vitiligo. However, a safe and effective bergamot oil dose for such uses has not been determined. In fact, because bergamot oil can be very irritating to the skin and can cause significant sun sensitivity, it is a good idea to avoid using bergamot oil on the skin (unless under the supervision of your healthcare provider). At this time, a bergamot oil dosage cannot be recommended for such uses.
