Side Effects of Lurasidone

While most people tolerate lurasidone without problems, side effects are possible. For example, some people taking the drug may experience drowsiness, nausea, or vomiting. Side effects of this drug are typically minor and easily treated, but some problems may require immediate medical attention, such as dizziness, frequent infections, or signs of an allergic reaction.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Lurasidone

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with lurasidone hydrochloride (Latuda®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Lurasidone Side Effects to Report

There are a number of possible side effects of lurasidone that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Unexplained breast enlargement or breast discharge
  • Frequent or persistent infections, which may be a sign of low white blood cells
  • Breast leakage
  • Breast development in men
  • Absent menstrual periods in women
  • Heat stroke
  • Signs of a stroke, such as:
    • Vision or speech changes
    • Weakness or numbness in an arm or leg
    • Severe headache
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Seizures
  • Signs or symptoms of neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which can include:
    • A high fever
    • Stiff muscles
    • Confusion
    • Irregular pulse or blood pressure
    • An increased heart rate (tachycardia)
    • Sweating
    • Irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • Unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
