An Overview of Librium and Breastfeeding
Currently, it is not known if
Librium® (
chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride) passes through breast milk. If it does pass through breast milk, it could cause problems in a breastfed infant. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding.
Librium and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?
No studies have been done to see if Librium passes through breast milk in humans. However, due to its chemical structure, Librium is likely to pass through breast milk. Also, Librium is a benzodiazepine, and other similar benzodiazepine medications pass through breast milk. If Librium does pass though breast milk, it could cause serious problems, such as extreme drowsiness and poor feeding in the breastfed infant. If your healthcare provider recommends taking Librium while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your child.
