Levomilnacipran Dosage

How Long Will Treatment Last?

Your healthcare provider will monitor your symptoms and determine how long you should remain on antidepressant treatment. You will likely need to continue treatment for several months or longer, even after your symptoms are well controlled. Stopping the medication too soon could cause your depression to return.

Some people may need long-term treatment over several years or even for their entire lives. This is referred to as maintenance treatment. In some cases, doses used for maintenance treatment may be lower than the amount you took to treat your major depression episode.

General Information on Taking Levomilnacipran

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with levomilnacipran include the following:

  • Levomilnacipran comes in the form of a capsule. It is usually taken by mouth once a day.

  • You can take your dose with or without food. Try taking it with food if it upsets your stomach.

  • This medication can be taken any time during the day. If it makes you drowsy, try taking it at night. If it causes insomnia, take it in the morning.

  • You should take your dose at the same time each day to keep an even level of the drug in your bloodstream.

  • Levomilnacipran should be swallowed whole. Do not cut, crush, or chew the capsules.

  • Suddenly stopping medications like levomilnacipran can cause uncomfortable withdrawal-type symptoms (see Fetzima Withdrawal). If you need to stop taking this medication, your healthcare provider will likely slowly reduce your dosage.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Levomilnacipran will not work if you stop taking it.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your levomilnacipran dosage, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
