L-Tryptophan Benefits

How Does L-Tryptophan Work?

L-tryptophan is an amino acid, which is important for building proteins. The body also uses L-tryptophan to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in depression and anxiety. The body also uses L-tryptophan to make niacin (a vitamin) and melatonin (a hormone).

L-Tryptophan Use in Children

A normal dietary intake of L-tryptophan (through foods) is safe and beneficial for children. It is not known if L-tryptophan supplements are equally safe. Keep in mind that children may be more sensitive to the effects and toxicities of medications or supplements. Check with your child's healthcare provider before giving your child L-tryptophan supplements for any purpose.
