An Introduction to Inositol Drug Interactions
Even though it is a "natural" product,
inositol can potentially interact with a number of medicines. Some of the medicines that can lead to inositol interactions include:
Inositol Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur between inositol and other medications.
Carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Epitol, Equetro, Tegretol)
Carbamazepine may lower inositol levels in the brain (but not in the rest of the body). However, it is theorized that this effect might be necessary for carbamazepine to work (although much more research is necessary to confirm this). Until more information is available, you should probably not combine carbamazepine with inositol, as this could make carbamazepine less effective. If you decide to take them together, be sure to do so with your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
Divalproex (Depakote, Depakote ER)
Divalproex may lower inositol levels in the brain (but not in the rest of the body). However, it is theorized that this effect might be necessary for divalproex to work (although much more research is necessary to confirm this). Until more information is available, you should probably not combine divalproex with inositol, as this could make divalproex less effective. If you decide to take them together, be sure to do so with your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
