Inositol Drug Interactions (Cont.)

Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
Lithium may lower inositol levels in the brain. However, it is theorized that this effect might be necessary for lithium to work (although much more research is necessary to confirm this). It is also theorized that this effect may also be responsible for some of the side effects of lithium. Until more information is available, you should probably not combine lithium with inositol (especially without your healthcare provider's approval), as this could make lithium less effective. If you decide to take them together, be sure to do so with your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.

Valproic Acid (Depakene)
Valproic acid may lower inositol levels in the brain (but not in the rest of the body). However, it is theorized that this effect might be necessary for valproic acid to work (although much more research is necessary to confirm this). Until more information is available, you should probably not combine valproic acid with inositol, as this could make valproic acid less effective. If you decide to take them together, be sure to do so with your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.

Final Thoughts on Inositol Drug Interactions

It is possible that not every drug interaction with inositol was discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the inositol interactions that may apply to you.
