If you are taking imipramine and breastfeeding at the same time, the medication can be passed through breast milk to your nursing infant. But the levels of imipramine that are passed through breast milk and into the baby's blood appear to be very low or undetectable. However, you should still be sure to talk with your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while on imipramine.

The levels of imipramine that are passed through breast milk appear to be low. Most studies found very low (or undetectable) amounts of imipramine in the blood of the breastfed babies. Studies also showed no negative effects on the development of the breastfed babies whose mothers were taking imipramine.
