Does Ginseng Work? (Cont.)

Unpromising Ginseng Uses

Research generally suggests that ginseng probably does not work for the following uses:

  • Improving athletic performance
  • Alleviating menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes)
  • Improving mood, sense of well-being, or overall quality of life.

Final Thoughts on Ginseng Effectiveness

Early studies suggest that ginseng may work for a few conditions. Further research is needed to confirm that ginseng is indeed effective (and safe) for such uses. It is important to remember that ginseng is classified as a dietary supplement (not a drug) and is, therefore, less strictly regulated than drugs.
