Precautions and Warnings With Elavil

There are a number of precautions and warnings with Elavil to be aware of, including potential drug interactions, the risk of increased or decreased blood sugar levels in some people who take Elavil, and the safety of taking the medication while pregnant or breastfeeding. Among the people who should not take Elavil are those who have recently had a heart attack and those who are allergic to any ingredient used to make Elavil.

Also let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Drink alcohol regularly
  • Will be undergoing surgery.
     
Also tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
