Elavil^® (amitriptyline hydrochloride) is a prescription drug approved for the treatment of depression. It belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants, which work by affecting serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain. Elavil comes in tablet form and is available in six different strengths.
