Focalin®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (
ADHD). Although dexmethylphenidate is a stimulant, it has effects that are the opposite of what would be expected of a stimulant. While stimulants like caffeine can cause hyperactivity, dexmethylphenidate has a calming effect.
Dexmethylphenidate is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. However, it has come off patent and is available as a generic.

Generic Dexmethylphenidate tablets are available in the following strengths:
- Dexmethylphenidate 2.5 mg
- Dexmethylphenidate 5 mg
- Dexmethylphenidate 10 mg.

Is Generic Dexmethylphenidate as Good as Focalin?
All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication.
