Desyrel® (trazodone hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression). Although it is not approved to treat insomnia, it is often used in an "off-label" fashion for this use.
Desyrel was first manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb. However, the patent has expired, and the drug is now available in generic form. In fact, because brand-name Desyrel is no longer available, generic Desyrel is the only option.
Generic Desyrel tablets are available in the following strengths:
Generic Desyrel is made by more than 10 different companies, including Teva Pharmaceuticals, Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Ivax Pharmaceuticals, and Watson Laboratories. Ask your pharmacist if you are interested in more information about these and other manufacturers.
