Desyrel® (
trazodone hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of
depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression). Although it is not approved to treat
insomnia, it is often used in an "
off-label" fashion for this use.
Desyrel was first manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb. However, the patent has expired, and the drug is now available in generic form. In fact, because brand-name Desyrel is no longer available, generic Desyrel is the only option.
