Campral® (acamprosate calcium) is approved to help people stop drinking alcohol. This prescription medication works by restoring a chemical balance in the brain that is disrupted by long-term alcohol use. Campral is available as a delayed-release tablet and is typically taken three times a day. Your dosage will be based on several factors, such as how well your kidneys are functioning. Side effects of Campral include diarrhea, nausea, and itching.
