Bupropion XL

Bupropion XL is used to treat depression and seasonal affective disorder. The medication works by allowing certain chemicals in the brain to stay in the brain for a longer period of time. It comes in tablet form, and is taken once a day -- usually in the morning. Potential side effects of this drug may include headaches, weight loss, and insomnia.

What Is Bupropion XL?

Bupropion XL (Wellbutrin XL^®, Forfivo™ XL) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression). Wellbutrin XL (but not Forfivo XL) is also approved for the prevention of seasonal affective disorder. It is an extended-release version of Wellbutrin^® (bupropion hydrochloride).

Are There Side Effects?

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with bupropion XL.

However, not everyone who takes it will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate the medication quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.

The most common side effects of bupropion XL include:

Headaches

Nausea
Constipation.
