Bupropion SR Interactions Explained
Alcohol
It is not recommended that you drink alcohol while taking
bupropion SR. Combining alcohol and
bupropion SR together may cause unwanted side effects
(see Wellbutrin SR and Alcohol). However, you should be sure to talk with your healthcare provider before you stop drinking alcohol, as stopping alcohol abruptly while taking bupropion SR can increase your risk of
seizures.
Other Antidepressants
Taking bupropion SR with other
antidepressants may affect the levels of bupropion SR and the other antidepressants in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Also, taking bupropion SR with other antidepressants may increase your risk of
seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before combining bupropion SR with other antidepressant medications.
Amantadine (Symmetrel)
Taking bupropion SR and
amantadine together may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower bupropion SR dose if you are taking amantadine.
Antipsychotic Medications
Bupropion SR can raise the levels of some
antipsychotic medications in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Also, taking bupropion SR with antipsychotic medications may increase your chances of seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Beta Blockers
Bupropion SR may raise the levels of beta blockers in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking bupropion SR along with a beta blocker, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to decrease your dose of the beta blocker.
