Bupropion Hydrobromide Dosage

For the treatment of depression, the suggested starting dosage of bupropion hydrobromide is 174 mg once daily in the morning. If necessary, your healthcare provider can increase this amount after the fourth day to 348 mg per day. The maximum dosing of this product is 522 mg daily. Do not take this medication later in the day, as it can cause insomnia.

An Introduction to Dosing With Bupropion Hydrobromide

The dose of bupropion hydrobromide (Aplenzin™) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • How you respond to bupropion hydrobromide
  • Other medications you are taking
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
     
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Bupropion Hydrobromide Dosage for Depression

The recommended starting dose for depression treatment is bupropion hydrobromide 174 mg once daily in the morning. As soon as the fourth day, your healthcare provider may increase your dose to bupropion hydrobromide 348 mg once daily. This dose is sufficient for many people. To help avoid bupropion hydrobromide seizures, the maximum recommended dosage is 522 mg once daily.
 
For people switching from bupropion hydrochloride products (Budeprion XL®, Buproban®, Budeprion XL®, Wellbutrin®, Wellbutrin XL®, and Zyban®), your healthcare provider will convert your dose appropriately.
 
For instance, 150 mg of bupropion hydrochloride total per day (any product) is equivalent to bupropion hydrobromide 174 mg once daily. Similarly, 300 mg of bupropion hydrochloride total per day (any product) is equivalent to bupropion hydrobromide 348 mg once daily. Finally, 450 mg of bupropion hydrochloride total per day is equivalent to bupropion hydrobromide 522 mg once daily.
 
People with liver problems (such as liver failure or cirrhosis) or kidney problems (such as kidney failure) may need a lower-than-normal bupropion hydrobromide dosage.
