Drug Interactions With Budeprion SR

Levodopa (Parcopa, Sinemet, Sinemet CR, Stalevo)
Taking Budeprion SR and levodopa together may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower Budeprion SR dose if you are taking levodopa.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
You should not take Budeprion SR if you have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days, due to an increased risk of dangerous side effects.

Nelfinavir (Viracept)
While it is thought that nelfinavir may interact with Budeprion SR, there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. If you are taking nelfinavir along with Budeprion SR, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these medications.

Nicotine Patches (NicoDerm CQ)
Taking Budeprion SR while using nicotine patches can cause high blood pressure. Your healthcare provider should monitor your blood pressure if you are taking these medications together.

Orphenadrine (Norflex)
While it is thought that orphenadrine may interact with Budeprion SR, there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. If you are taking orphenadrine along with Budeprion SR, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these medications.

Ritonavir (Norvir) or Lopinavir and Ritonavir (Kaletra)
Ritonavir (whether taken alone or with lopinavir) may increase the metabolism of Budeprion SR, leading to decreased levels of Budeprion SR in the blood and possibly to decreased effectiveness. Check with your healthcare provider before taking such medications together. You may need a higher Budeprion SR dosage, although the maximum recommended dosage should not be exceeded, even if you are taking ritonavir.

Steroids
Taking Budeprion SR with intravenous (IV) or oral steroids can increase your risk of seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
At least theoretically, Budeprion SR could cause tamoxifen to be less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Theophylline
Taking Budeprion SR with theophylline can increase your risk of seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking Budeprion SR and theophylline together.
