The starting atomoxetine dosage for adults -- as well as children or teens weighing more than 154 pounds -- is 40 mg once daily or 20 mg twice daily. Children and teenagers weighing less than 154 pounds typically start with 0.25 mg of atomoxetine per pound of weight, rounded to the nearest available strength. Among the factors that can affect atomoxetine dosing are your age, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you may be currently taking.
The dosage of atomoxetine hydrochloride (Strattera®) that your healthcare provider prescribes will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- Your weight
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may be currently taking.
As always, do not adjust your atomoxetine dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
For children and teenagers weighing 154 pounds or less, atomoxetine should be started at 0.25 mg per pound of weight, rounded to the nearest available strength. After at least three days, your healthcare provider can increase your atomoxetine dose to 0.6 mg per pound of body weight (rounded to the nearest strength available). The dose can be taken once daily in the morning or divided into two doses (one in the morning and one in the late afternoon or early evening).
Children and teens who weigh more than 154 pounds should receive the adult atomoxetine dose.
