Drug Interactions With Aripiprazole ER Injection

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Aripiprazole ER Injection

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when aripiprazole ER injection is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

CYP 2D6 Inhibitors
Aripiprazole ER injection is broken down (metabolized) by liver enzymes, including CYP 2D6 enzymes. Several other medications known as CYP 2D6 inhibitors slow down the action of these enzymes, potentially leading to higher-than-normal levels of aripiprazole ER injection in the blood.

If you need to take a CYP 2D6 inhibitor medication for more than 14 days, you may need a lower-than-normal aripiprazole ER injection dosage to accommodate for this interaction. Check with your healthcare provider before combining such drugs.

CYP 3A4 Inducers
Aripiprazole ER injection is broken down (metabolized) by liver enzymes, including CYP 3A4 enzymes. Several other medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers speed up the action of these enzymes, potentially leading to lower-than-normal levels of aripiprazole ER injection in the blood. Combining aripiprazole ER injection with a CYP 3A4 inducer medication for more than 14 days is not recommended due to the risk that aripiprazole ER injection may not work as well as usual.

High Blood Pressure Medications
Aripiprazole ER injection can sometimes cause a drop in blood pressure, and may enhance the effects of some high blood pressure medications. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor your blood pressure closely if you combine a hypertension drug with aripiprazole ER injection.

Medications That Cause Drowsiness
Combining aripiprazole ER injection with alcohol or other medications that cause drowsiness may increase your risk for side effects, such as increased drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. This could make it unsafe to perform tasks that require mental alertness, such as driving.
